With out a doubt the dreaded C word is the ugliest word in my opinion. I have only been called that once and oddly enough, the man who called me one is missing a tooth now..
Hmm. The "c" word in its British contest is quite harmless, and has a completely different ring. I don't find words ugly as much as the ideas behind them. The meaning of words evolve and get turned around by socio-political events, and some lose their initial meanings and gain new ones.Words also must be viewed in context: "that's so gay!", when used to mean that something is bad, gives the word gay a whole different meaning than saying "i'm gay."
I'm with the majority on the C word - I absolutely despise it, it completely repulses me. Apart from swear words there are no words I hate as such, but I cringe at the way some are pronounced -'appreciate' is a perfect example. I pronounce it Ah-preee-she-ate, while others skirt over the 'ciate' bit and it makes me teeth itch. But thats just me being daft.
I agree with AM. It's not the word its how it is said particularly when you are talking about derogitory terms. Maybe you can't beautify certain words but you can definately uglify even the most beautiful ones. Some of my 'ugly' words: War, Poverty, Starvation, Rape, Malaria.

I can't even say it. Starts with a c and ends with a t and is 4 letters. Think diragatory comment towards a woman.
Ewwww.

It's not the words, it's the people using them.

All of the above... and some.
I find myself being also very sensitive to the tone of voice that might accompany a word.
Even a "nice" word can quickly become dead ugly.
