I usually pay them when I get them, but never late. I've learned my lesson. My husband and I split all of the bills so we each keep up with our own. It works!

I stick them in my brief case as they come in and pay them the weekend after payday. This way they are always paid no more than 2 weeks after receiving them.
Most everyone has their billing cycles designed to allow you this "till payday" time.
It's about 99% effective.

I am horrible, absolutely horrible with paying bills. I hate balancing my checkbook and all other aspects of household accounting. I am forever misplacing bills and forgetting to pay bills. I get so angry with myself when I have to pay late charges, but I turn right around and do the same dance the next billing cycle.

Don't like'm but they get paid on time; all on the same date.
1. Envelops are open as they arrive, read and placed in "special" keeping place asp.
2.On designated "date" payments are made.
3. Followed by the real tricky part: filing them! (in individual folder systems for each statement with its corresponding bills (if any) in see through sleeves) - sooner or later...
Songbird - balancing the check book is another question, another day -lol!

This is why I prefer bill payments taken out from the bank each month, I don't have to worry abouta " due date". I also have a reminder service set up so I don't forget.

I open and collect bills as they come in. I usually carry them all around together with a pocket calendar with the due dates written in it. Since I get paid once a month, a couple days before the 1st of the month, I enter my upcoming paycheck, make online payments for the 2nd or 3rd and get the rest ready to pay. I find that if I pay everything at the beginning of the month, I'm better about not spending whatever is left too fast.

I have most bills automatically deducted through the bank or the ability to directly remove them from my bank account by phone. I pay on time, or early, since I don't run my credit cards beyond what I need and can manage.
I use a bin at home that I rifled through every Friday to keep things up to date. Everything I need to do goes in that bin (mail, bills, etc...) and I look at it regularly. Works for me.

i am pretty organized. when i get the bill i enter it onto my calendar on my computer, making an e-mail alarm for 3 days before it's due, and then i pay it off when i get the reminder. i'm a fan of paying on line too...
