Yes, although I don't know if it was "officially" suicide. A young kid from my church youth group and others were playing "Russian Roullette."

thankfully, no. the closest instance i can think of was when a guy i went to high school with dad shot himself. i'm not sure i would know how to handle it if it was somebody i actually knew.

Yes, unfortunately. It was 1990 and the person was my first g/f who, long story very very short, couldn't handle all the pressure of being gay in in the military all at the same time. There is a lot more to the story but I don't have room here to tell it.

They say that my dad's cousin committed suicide, but no one is sure if it was suicide or homicide. I didn't really know him that well to tell either way.

A friend of the family committed suicide when I was a sophomore in high school. He was clinically depressed. It still makes me so sad when I think of him because I didn't know the depressed man. I knew the happy, loving, caring, fun man. It was a total shock to me then, and I'm not sure if it has lessened any to this day.

Unfortunately, yes. I grew up in a very small rural community... Beth Ann was a year younger than I. We shared birthday parties as children. Bridal showers, weddings, baby showers and babies came next.

One day she didn't show up for work. Co-workers became worried and called her parents. When they got to her home it was in immaculate condition with dinner in the crock pot. They found her in the barn. She'd shot herself under her chin with a shot gun.

A few years later, the son who had taught her to shoot the gun also committed suicide... unable to live with the guilt. Very sad.

I went downstairs one time when i was younger and found my mom on the couch... it was pretty late, so I was wondering why she was still sleeping. I tried waking her up and I couldn't, i got my brother and he couldn't wake her up either. I called my dad who was already at work and he said to call 911. I was so scared, and so mad at my mom, I was yelling and hitting her in the face trying to wake her up. The ambulance came... and I'm not too sure what happened after that. She survived, but had to spend months in the hospital. I was only 7 or 8, so I don't think I really knew what really happened until later.

I run a program for adults with severe, persistant mental illness. Unfortunately I have known a few people that have ended their own lives.

I've been spared experiencing the grief of death in my life. I don't even personally know anyone who has died of natural causes or illness. Perhaps the closest person was my husbands grandfather who I met a couple of times.

Yes, in 2000 my brother killed himself after a 22-year-old life of drugs and alcohol and partying. My dad was in the car behind him when he did it, and was the one to pull him out of the car. It was hard on all of the family and his friends, but it just shows us how fragile life is, and careful we need to be.

The husband of my oldest, dearest friends killed himself, leaving his six year old daughter without a dad. They were permanently separated, but it was SO hard on the kid. He had had mental problems for a few years.
