Sounds too simple to be true, but Papa John's. The secret touch: their garlic butter!!! (Of course, I'm a bit biased; I was an asst. mgr. for them for almost 2 years...) Actually, the best pizza experience I ever had was Giovanni's in Chicago's North-side. This HUGE deep-dish pizza came, and my friend and I couldn't even finish it, there was so much to it! My wife says what makes a pizza perfect is black olives, mushrooms, pineapple and bacon. No, she is NOT pregnant!
California Pizza Kitchen, Shrimp Scampi Pizza... From their web site: "Sauteed shrimp, mild onions, roasted garlic, Mozzarella cheese, fresh oregano and Italian parsley with a white wine lemon-garlic butter sauce." From my taste buds: Yum!
Living in Chicago in the late 60's I had the privlidge of eating the BEST pizza on the face of the earth at Piper's Alley Pizza in Old Town. It was without a doubt the best pizza in the history of mankind! Sorry to say the place no longer exists but Gino's does. When they give me only 6 months to live, I'll be there for a pie only Chicago can create.
I also love Papa John's pizza! It's ashame the closest one to me now is at least 30 min. away, but we still treat ourselves occasionally. The BEST I've had is at EVERYBODY'S in Atlanta near Emory university and it has to have EVERYTHING on it!! I like some things naked but not my pizza!
Being that I'm not the cook, I normally don't make any pizza myself (unless it's frozen), although I did make one from scratch once when I was in Germany. Well actually I assisted (cut up the vegetables) my 13 year old cousin. He made the dough and everything from scratch.
My favorite pizza is thin crust, I'll eat just about anything on it, and my favorite is from Sanfrantello's.
Either that or the BBQ Chicken pizza from California Pizza Kitchen. It really is a toss up.
I used to be a manager for Pizza Hut and I made up all kinds of pizzas; 1.breakfast pizza made with eggs cheese sausage ham and onions, YUMMY 2.thin crust, then ranch (as your sauce), ham, onion, green peppers, chicken and a little bit of cheese. OMG that one was my specialty. 3. cheeseburger pizza, hand tossed dough, mustard and ketchup, hamburger, cheese and to top it off pickels.
