The first computer I clearly remember using was a Commodore 64 that my Dad bought. He had a few computers before that, but this is the one I remember the most. My Mom would always think he was just throwing money away on a "new gadget". Guess this fad stuck around....lol.
I remember typing in programming in DOS to play simple games. We also thought it was so cool that we could store all our dinner recipes on a floppy disk (the old kind with the big hole in the middle).

In college in the mid-80's. I didn't have even half of a clue what I was doing. My big sister on campus did almost all my work for me. Oh that's such a horrible thing to admit!

i honestly don't remember the first time specficially. i grew up with a computer in the house due to my uncle who lived with my dad being very technologically savy. i know we used the old apple II e computers at school - to play oregon trail and what not. and at home i played math rabbit and typing games (QUERTY!), so i could learn and play at the same time. it's funny b/c at work every now and then i have to use DOS and it all comes back to me...cd C;\..dir...

I don't remember exactly. Had to be in school, probably somewhere late in grade school.

I think my neighbor friend had a TI-80 or some such thing in late elementary or early junior high school. The only thing we could ever get it to do was scroll down the same message all the way down the screen...

My sister's Compaq, probably 10 years ago now. The first thing I did on my own was search for "Jeanette Winterson" and print the interview with her I found so I could enjoy it at my leisure without the "family" peering over my shoulder...lol!

I know it was in high school during the 80's but I don't remember what kind it was or anything like that. All I remember about it at all was playing a game with soldiers and wars and stuff and wishing I could do someting like Matthew Broderick did in the movie Wargames

3rd grade, I think...elementary school...would have been in the early or mid 80s and those computers were hilarious, thinking about them now...huge! And they took those big floppy disks.

Sublime, you and I are from the same era! My C64 wasn't mine; it was at the public library in the late 70's. The first computer I owned was the old IBM PCjr. At least with the Jr, I could write programs in BASIC instead of DOS.

Additional note: the thing I always hated most about those old computers: DOT MATRIX PRINTERS! Aaaaarrrgh!

Had to be in school at some point. Actually, it's all coming back to me...grade school, Oregon Trail in the library (that's the only place that had computers in the school). Don't know what kind it was, but I sure loved the Oregon Trail!
Thanks for the memories!

OMG! Dot matrix printers were so horrible...lol. I must have blocked those out of my mind! Do you remember the 1st, old handheld scanners? Now, those were hilarious.

OMG Sublime.. My first computer was a Commodore Vic 20 that my dad got me! I had no sense on what was going on at the time.. I just used it to play my games... I remember this one game called Adventureland, where you type in your answers and the computer tells you what to do... Very neat!
And then the darn thing broke! Dratz!

I think the first one looked alot like that one. It must have been in elementary school. We had apple computers. Then my dad got an atari computer and we thought that was "it". LOL
