yes, i was. have quit many times, each time believing it would be the last. my nemisis is stress. i don't drink for stress, but i do eat for stress...and sometimes its beyond the place where food makes any difference...then i will go back to the smokes :( been off them for a while now, but have learned to never say never. (its better than mind altering drugs)

I used to smoke -- a lot. I lived in Italy and you could smoke anywhere, and for some reason that served as an incentive for me to smoke almost constantly. When I moved back to the States, I only smoked when I drank. I just quit altogether a couple of months ago. But it's still tricky if I'm out at a bar. A drink in one hands usually tempts the other hand to grab a smoke.

i was a true smoker...made love to my cigarettes...when my son was 8 years old i asked him what he wanted for his birthday and he said he wanted me to quit smoking...i wasn't able to to it...when he was turning 9 i asked him what he wanted for his birthday and he said the same thing...this time i was able to do it...put the patch on, went to bed, and when i woke up i did not have that 1st morning smoke...what a miricle...i smoked for 20 years...from 13 t0 33...i have been smoke free for 10 years...i have given up many things in my life, but the best thing i ever gave up was the smokes...how freeing it is to not be a slave to those things...

    peace...

i started smoking "socially" my freshman year in college and became a real smoker my sophomore year. i define "real" as buying my own packs...rather than bumming constantly. i hit a low my junior year due to a broke up and the summer after that i was up to a pack a day.

right around graduation the next year my younger brother found out i smoked (yes, i hid it from my family) and i quit. cold turkey. it wasn't too hard since it had only been a few years.

then, when i moved to california it was a lot easier b/c nobody smokes out here. except my boyfriend. he's been a semi-bad influence on me and i still have a puff or two. and when we're out i probably have one or two depending on how much i drink.

but, ultimately, i don't consider myself a smoker any more. good luck to all of you quitting!

From 15 to 38, for most of that over 2 packs a day. My wife was beginning to have problems and said she couldn't quit unless I did, so 12 years ago we started on the patch system. It worked wonderfully for me, 3 steps and done just like Nancy. My wife developed an allergy to the adhesive 3 weeks in and looked like she had been mauled by an octopus, and went cold turkey from there...

I started smoking when I was 11. Quit when I was 20 for about six months but then picked back up again. Quit again when I got pregnant with my son and didn't pick back up for 5 years. When I went thru my seperation last year, I turned to cigarettes to relieve stress. Quit twice since then for a few weeks at a time. I'm currently in a relapse at the moment. Next quitting date: Sunday. Wish me luck!

Never even tried a cigarrette before. I've always been allergic so I think that's been my driving force. :)

I tried smoking once, when I was 11. A whole bunch of my friends gathered to "look cool." During our puffing, an old guy walked up to us, casually struck up a conversation and "hyped-up" how cool we were. I realized shortly thereafter that he was politely saying, "You guys look like total morons!" Also, I ended up with a sore throat, and never tried again.

I tried, but too harsh on my lungs. Cannibis is a lot smoother.

I've never smoked. My mom smoked my whole life and I found it repulsive. I was SO glad when she finally quit a few years ago. I don't have to wash my clothes after going to visit anymore!

I smoked for 4 years, quit for 12 and then smoked for another 2 before I quit for good. I'm done.
