I personally believe Ecclesiastes 12:7-- "The body returns to the dust as it was; the spirit returns to his God."
It appears Gene Roddenberry believed this at least to a degree. The Klingons announced the death of one of their fellow warriors by howling to the heavens. As far as the body went, "They are just an empty shell now. Please treat it as such."

The spirit goes to Heaven and life is bigger and better than on Earth, love abounds, and we're reunited with those we know and love.

i believe in reincarnation...your soul leaves your body, gets reborn in a new body, and you start all over again learning all the lessons that you didn't learn in your last life...this keeps happening till you reach nirvana...

I believe that they will not be showing up for my party the next weekend...

...beyond that, I'll just wing it!

I think the electricity stops firing in the brain and nervous system, the electricity goes somewhere else (energy's not destroyed, it just changes form, right?) but I don't know where it goes... and I can't explain it, and I think the ideas of heaven and hell are just plain silly.

Well if I knew the answer to that one ...

I'm actually torn in trying to figure out what I believe. One part of me believes in energy forces and that since no energy is created nor destroyed that once you die, your energy (or spirit) is still out there.

Then another part of me says that you live on in the minds and hearts of those that knew you while you were alive. In other words, when the heart stops pumping and blood no longer flows to the brain, you just cease to exist.

Maybe I'll decide on the answer to this one sometime before ... well you know.

their body may be gone, but their spirit definitely lives on. whether it's heaven or something else, i don't know. but i know my friends and loved ones are still "here".

I'm with Nancy. My kids and I are already plotting what to do in our next lives together. (I believe we cycle through with some of the same souls again and again. That's why you meet someone and feel like you've known them forever...)

I'm with Inger here. I believe we meet up again and again and have lessons to learn and sort out, and karma to work through. I also believe we meet up with the same "souls".... I like that idea. it's kind of reassuring even though in a way scarey because it means that various issues hang over from one life to the next to be resolved...

I really don't know. I've been thinking about it a lot lately. I think we return to whereever or whatever we were before we were born. Whether that's a spirit in heaven, or nothing, I don't know.
