Twentieth Question

This question was inspired by an email conversation I had yesterday with fellow blogger Jimmi (aka Pinky Bear). I happened to mention that I use to collect kitschy/cheesy religious items. For instance, at one time I owned a picture of the Last Supper painting that was framed in by seashells. It was hideous, yet fun at the same time. Once the collection grew too big, I slowly started getting rid of it all. Today, I live out my collection habits vicariously through my son's Pez Dispenser assortment. I always have the feeling that the elusive baseball glove/ball/bat dispenser is just around the corner!

Then, also yesterday, I turned on my car radio just in time to hear an NPR story about the world's largest menu collection (see link underneath the question for today).

I want to know what else people are collecting....

I don't suppose pet hair under the furniture counts. LOL

Seriously, I collect AnnaLee dolls. My mom started me on it when I was a teen. Now I have her collection and mine. Fran and I recently started collecting Boyd's Bears. We just don't want them overflowing everywhere in the house.

I collect things to get organized with. File folders and labels and little boxes and stacking trays, etc. None of them ever get used, but I love buying them with the thought that one day I will be the most organized person on the planet.

I used to have a coin collection. My grandfather stole it, the prick. I have a collection of comic books (mostyl Vertigo), as well as a collection of Tarot Cards. Mostly, I collect polar bears and now, lots of dust.

    My entire life: beach glass

When I was younger: coins and keychains.

Then, moved on to Pez Dispensers.

Now I'd say photos, candles, CDs, DVDs, shoes, and my complete obsession with fun undies. :-)

I've been trying to cut down on my collections. I used to collect vintage hats and purses. The stranger the better. I also used to collect James Dean memorabilia.

I've given away almost all my hats and purses and I stopped buying James Dean stuff...well, except for the DVD set of his movies I bought last month.

Currently I am just collecting dust.

Ther's no one special item I collect (unless you count shoes, but I actually wear those, so there's no sentiental value there necessarily.). My boyfriend, on the other hand, has this collection of wrestling singlets that is simply... awesome.

AMGrace, did you see the B&W James Dean pictures I threw in on the background for today's question? I put them there for you!

I have this thing for boxes. All kinds. I don't intentionally collect them, but I seem to acquire a lot of them. If I see one and love it I must have it. Old farmhouse wooden ones, beaded satiny ones, tins, cigar boxes, you name it. And I use them all, I'm very organized. Hmmm... maybe this little box obsession of mine should be telling me something? Nah.

I looked again and saw them. Thanks, that's cool. I saw the cat video, it was hilarious. I needed the laugh.

Does this mean you don't have the amgrace collection anymore? You used to be the depository for the stuff (crap) I collected. lol

I used to collect phones. I loved phones, I had a lego one, a clear one, a big button one, all types of phones. I also had an amzing collection of post cards, all vango, renua, ruben, goghan (I know those are all spelled horribly wrong). Now a days I collect animals. I have way too many pets.

Elephants. Love their big, hulking, soft serenity. "I'm not even going to LOOK at you thinking about fucking with me" kind of thing.

Memories and places. Being a travel addict, I collect photos of places I've been, and people who have befriended me. By far the most valuable things I own.

It seems I inadvertantly collect debit card receipts. Vinyl - particular music sounds best on vinyl, so that would probably be my only collection, besides CDs and DVDs.

Beanie Babies, Beanie Babies, Beanie Babies.... I love collecting them. They are making me go broke(not really, but you know). There are so many of them, I cant keep up with buying all of them. I mean everytime I turn around there is a new one out. Geeez, they need to quit driving me crazy. LOL.

Also, Sunray me too. I love cobalt blue anything. It is so pretty. Glasses, vases, plates, cobalt and crystal dishes(my favorite out of all).

My son collects trains. Of course everytime we see anything that has to with trains, we just have to get it for him. Pictures, thomas and friends, his whole room is trains.

Speaking of trains...it reminded me of a friend of mine. His parents saw a train at his house that someone had given him as a gift and they (wrongly) assumed that he liked trains and started collecting them. So, every christmas they get him another train. He doesn't have the heart to tell them the truth. Now he's stuck with a lot of trains he doesn't want. Misguided intentions that led to an unwanted collection.

I never did collect anything. The closest thing that I can think of is cards/letters/photographs. Memories? But even that fades...

Keychains, when I was younger. Now, winnie-the-pooh stuff, especially Eeyore. And barbies. Oh, I did NOT just admit that.

Also have a strange attraction to office and art supplies. Have more pens, paintbrushes, and notebooks than any one person really needs. Don't count books and music, because that's not just a collection--I need those things to breathe!

Also have a very small collection of foreign/old coins (only what I've picked up in change or been given by relatives). Not as much fun now that everyone's gone Euro.

When people give me stuff I don't want, I appreciate it in the moment, honor their loving intention and then throw it or give it away.

I do have a seashell collection, and eventually had to figure out how to display them. So I made a glass top on a throw-away bookcase, and then painted it to look like the ocean (sea green!) with the ocean spray blowing up the sides.
