Today is World AIDS Day. Do you personally know anyone who has passed away from AIDS/HIV or is currently battling the disease?

A friend of mine passed away on Thanksgiving day last week after many years of struggling against the disease. Glenn was only 34 years old.

Fortunately, no. Although it could happen to anyone of us at anytime. I'm sorry about your friends, Sublime and Nancy (and anyone else who's lost someone to this terrible epidemic).

Yes, I knew a couple who passed away years ago and left behind an infant child struggling with HIV. John had previously been a drug addict and didn't know he had contracted AIDS until he and Marianne were already married. I haven't heard how the child, now about age 12, has been doing.

Yes I lost a friend in the 1990's. This was when not much was known or said about this disease. He had left our small town in the mid-west, and his wife and kids to live his true life in San Fran. His fear of his family's reaction to him being gay had caused him to try and be "normal". Makes you think...how much has changed, how much has stayed the same.
He died alone in his adopted city without his family. Sad.
    Peace*Francie

I've known several people with AIDS or HIV. Mostly gay men that I knew in college. None of them has died, all are living with AIDS or HIV. Some of their friends have died. I heard on the news today that after Africa, India has the highest incidence of AIDS. We are so fortunate to live here, in the US, and have access to the medications and physicians that we have. My heart goes out to those that suffer with this disease.
Sublime, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend.

My friend moved into a wonderful old factory building, mostly inhabited by incredible artists. I would go over several times a week and we'd go visit everyone, learn about their art and hang out. Several had HIV, one died of AIDs during that time. (early 90's)

Thankfully, I don't know anyone who has passed away from AIDS, but one of my brother's friends is HIV positive.
