every year i give to my alma matter, but not really anywhere else. i haven't found a charity that i really identify with, but it's definitely something on my list. perhaps i'll find some suggestions here today!
No extra charities at Christmas. We (my husband and I) pay tithing and fast offerings (where you fast for two meals then give the money you would have spent on those meals, in a nutshell) to our church faithfully. I know where that money goes, and I'm fine witht hat. I have also been the recipient of others paying their tithing and fast offerings.
Also with my church, the women's orgnaization tends to get meals or presents or different kinds of service for others, so I try to help out with that as much as I can.
I volunteer money, time and energy to Rotary International thru my local club and district. I volunteer my piano skills (?) for our local high school choir.

I volunteer at the ballet during the Nutcracker and always give all my change to the Salvation Army bell ringers. I support a few others all year.

My charities of choice are Salvation Army (especially this time of year) and American Red Cross.
